Farewell to our 2023 Ambassadors

Which Schools, projects and individuals will join us this year?

As the dust settles after Welcome Week and the start of the new academic year, the Facilitation team hosted the annual Digital Research Ambassadors event, celebrating the achievements of the 2023 internship scheme. We could not be prouder of the outcomes! Check out the interns’ presentations, for a summary of the work completed so far.

Presentations

By contributing to projects not related to their field of study, our interns managed to overcome disciplinary barriers and stepped outside their comfort zone They used their data and computational skills and adapted to different working environments. These achievements wouldn’t be possible without the guidance, support and mentorship of the hosts across schools and colleges, disciplines and domains. Their projects and research questions cover a broad range of topics and have been the driving force behind the scheme’s success.

Watching how this internship scheme evolves over the years, strengthening our PGRs' CVs and amplifying research efforts, has been a source of inspiration for us working behind the scenes to manage the internship. So far, we had 21 internships completed and 10 projects supported since 2019 across 3 colleges, with participation from 10 Schools within CAHSS and 6 Schools within CSE. It is a wonderful surprise to see former Ambassadors, like Durai Arun Pannir Selvam, who completed his PhD in Engineering joining CMVM as a postdoctoral researcher. Similarly, former Ambassador Lucia Michielin is now the Digital Skills Training Manager at the Centre for Data Culture & Society.

As always, we asked for feedback and worked towards incorporating the suggestions into our planning work for the scheme's next iteration. Those interested in participating as a host or interns are invited to register their interest.
