DMPonline helps you to create, review, and share data management plans that meet institutional and funder requirements. It is provided by the Digital Curation Centre (DCC).
DMPonline is a web-based tool that supports researchers to develop data management and sharing plans. It contains the latest funder templates and best practice guidelines to support users to create good quality data management plans (DMPs).
Within the tool you will find custom guidance and example answers to help you develop your DMP. These are offered by the DCC, research funders and many research organisations. You can also browse the growing list of public DMPs published by other users of the tool for inspiration.
A DMP is a document that describes your plans for creating, organising, documenting, storing and sharing data. It will help you consider issues such as data protection and confidentiality, data preservation and curation.
DMPonline enables you to create, review, and share a data management plan in collaboration with your fellow researchers.
DMPonline contains templates designed to meet the specific requirements of different funders in the UK and overseas covering a wide range of disciplines. The tool is customised for your institution so as you work through the sections you can see examples and guidance based on the University of Edinburgh’s support and services. There are also institutional templates to use if your funder doesn’t have one.
You can also access tailored guidance and example answers from the Digital Curation Centre - which provides DMPonline - and other external research organisations.
As you work on your plan you can give access so your co-authors and collaborators can either read or contribute to your draft plan - whether they are based at the University of Edinburgh or elsewhere. Once you have finalised the plan you can download it as a document.
You can keep multiple data management plans in DMPonline and share them with different people. If you don’t have a funder, you can still use the tool to create data management plan to get agreement and keep track of how you’ll keep on top of your data throughout the research project.
If you move to another institution, you can just update your DMPonline account with your new details, and you will still be able to access all your plans even after you have left.
