EPCC

A national centre accelerating computing throughout industry, academia and commerce.

EPCC has many years’ experience of collaborative working. A part of the University of Edinburgh, it provides leading edge high-performance computing and data analytics facilities, education and training programmes and internationally recognised expertise in data and software research and development. Researchers in all disciplines who use computational methods are invited to contact us to discuss how high performance computing and/or data analytics can support your research project.

High Performance Computing

EPCC provides a range of high-performance and data analytics computing services, all of which can be accessed via a user’s own computer. Specific access routes to the national computing services have been designed for University of Edinburgh researchers.

Data analytics

EPCC has a wide experience of employing data engineering to solve real-world problems. Its emphasis is on applied data science at scale, at building systems to manage, process and analyse data. EPCC’s work covers everything from small-scale analytics to continental data systems, from open access data to the security of data safe havens. You can talk to EPCC for consultancy and/or collaborative projects.

Project planning, design and funding

EPCC has great experience in building national and international research collaborations with academic and industrial partners, and in navigating the funding process.

At the grant application stage, EPCC can advise on the HPC hours, data storage and level of EPCC staffing that will be needed to support your project. EPCC can also advise which of its many services are most suitable.

Software

EPCC staff work in collaboration with our research partners to design, develop and optimise software suitable to analyse data and modelling phenomena.

User support

Hosted by EPCC, user support services are available during standard business hours.

Training & education

EPCC offers online and face-to-face training on many aspects of high-performance computing and data analytics. All its training can be tailored to suit individual needs.

We also offer MSc programmes in HPC and HPC with Data Science, available both on-campus and online and fully accredited by the University of Edinburgh.

Publicity & promotion

EPCC welcomes articles, blog posts, and case studies by its project partners to publish on the EPCC website, social media and in newsletters.

There are various options as follows:

  • Access to computing services typically allows a free trial. These services each have a pricing scheme that depends on how the service has been funded in the first place and the proposed access.
  • Collaborative project costs tend to be covered by your grant provider or we can enter into collaborative bids. EPCC can help you to factor costs into your application.
  • We have 30 years’ experience working with commercial partners in innovative projects adding value to their business.

Please contact our Commercial Manager, Dr Julien Sindt, to discuss the best option for your needs.
