Over the next several months, changes are being made to project functionality on OSF. The Center for Open Science will phase out OSF Projects workflows November 16, 2026 through February 19, 2027. As part of this transition:

  • Beginning November 16, 2026: You will no longer be able to create new OSF Projects or child components within existing projects.
  • Beginning February 19, 2027: All OSF Projects will be read-only. You will continue to have access to all project materials, but no further changes or additions can be made. All public links and DOI identifiers to content will remain so that shared content is persistent, discoverable, and accessible.

Going forward, OSF will continue with a more focused role supporting study planning and preregistration, community-run preprint services, and links between research plans, related materials, and results. All OSF project content shared publicly will remain persistent, discoverable, and accessible after these changes are implemented.

Overview

The Open Science Framework (OSF) is a data sharing network that facilitates collaborative research by providing individual researchers a means for centralizing data storage, integration and sharing across the research lifecycle.

As a collaboration tool, OSF helps research teams work on projects privately or make the entire project publicly accessible for broad dissemination. As a workflow system, OSF enables connections to the many products researchers already use, streamlining their process and increasing efficiency.

Users of the University subscription can:

  • Use their Single Sign-on (EASE) to sign into OSF
  • Connect their OneDrive for Business storage to OSF
  • Easily find and connect with other UoE users & projects on OSF via the University's Discovery page

This service is free for our students and staff. Simply go to Sign-up on the OSF home page and use the Institution option.
