This blog series showcases skills development opportunities across services, schools and colleges.
Part 4 introduces the Digital Skills and Training team, the one-stop shop for all your digital skills needs at the University of Edinburgh.
Here at Digital Skills we support the University’s digital strategy by developing the digital capabilities of staff and students to encourage productive working, studying and research. As well as a range of tools to assess your digital skills and discover essential skills for your role, we offer development opportunities including live training, online videos and resources, tailored courses and broad digital skills development programmes.
Some of our most exciting offerings this year have been organised in themed blocks of training as part of the Digital Skills Programme, under which we coordinate training courses offered by different teams across the University. With over 140 courses on offer each semester, we have something for everyone! In Semester 1 2023-24, we ran various themed blocks including the Student Focus Fortnight, the Data and Programming Fortnight, Media and Creativity Week, and Information Security and Digital Safety Week. Many of the courses we offer help students and staff sharpen their digital skills for research, including courses on referencing and avoiding plagiarism, using PowerPoint to create academic posters, a short introduction to Open Textbooks, data literacy for beginners, and academic blogging to spread word about your research journey, among many others!
We also run the popular Developing Your Data Skills programme, and provide a wealth of resources on Digital Safety, Wellbeing and Citizenship. For further technology, business and creative skills development, we provide all students and staff with free access to LinkedIn Learning.
